JSA: How long have you been playing soccer?
I’ve been playing soccer for about 2 years with a 11v11 team, but for about 5 years playing rec league soccer.
JSA: What made you decide to trust your development with the Jesters?
My friend Tyler told that I should play for the Jesters during the offseason last year so that I can get training and play some games before the next high school season. The way I played the next season was in part due to the training from the Jesters that offseason.
JSA: How did the Jesters training improve your mental and physical attributes?
They don’t make anything easy. You have to bring everything you have to every practice if you want to play in the games, and if you want to start in the games you need to play well in the games. It’s that mentality that’s helped me the most to get better in all aspects of the game, not just mentally or physically.
JSA: Do you have any special moments during your high school career?
When I scored a brace against East Jefferson in a 3-3 comeback was really the highlight of the season for me. There were other high points as well, such as scoring another brace and two assists against Helen Cox or securing a tournament championship win by scoring 3 goals in 4 games. However, the tie against EJ was probably the best memory, as we lost against them last year 7-0. So, to go to their house, and playing the game of that season with everything we had was probably the best memory, and the best feeling in the world.
JSA: Do you plan to continue to pursue soccer at a higher level?
I want to go to college, but I got to get better mentally, and thinking ahead. I’ve gotten better in both of those areas, but I want to get even better. So, when I have a bad practice or bad game, I’m downtrodden pretty much until the next game or practice. The reason for that is because I want to get better at every game or practice. If I want to go to college or go pro then I have to do about 5 years of development in a short time, or I’ll never get there.
JSA: If you had to chose from one lesson taken from the season, what would it be?
I guess it would be to never take nothing for granted and cherish the small stuff. With the high school season gone, I’ve got a lot of time to reflect on that season. The bus rides to games, jamming out to Dreams and Nightmares after a win, the feeling of comradery from every game, is hard to replicate. That same comradery is evident here at the Jesters. These guys have helped on the team to develop into a better player that wouldn’t have any other way. And, I’m going to stay and keep developing until I’m in college, or pro.
JSA: If a Freshman in High School comes to you for advice on soccer, what do you information would you pass on?
I guess it would be to always train hard work on everything pertaining to soccer. I would say that I was never the most technically gifted player, or the smartest, but I did have one thing. I hustled for the ball, and I know what I need to do with it to score, or setup a teammate. I’d say work on you hustle the most, as when the game is in the final stretches of overtime and your opponent has nothing in them, you still have something left. That in the beginning, middle, or end of the game, nothing will stop you from winning the ball, or getting to the ball, or scoring. That with hustle mixed with skill, and intelligence, you would be the best player on that the field.
