Jesters kick off NPSL season vs Southern States SC Friday night

New Orleans, LA.  The New Orleans Jesters take on Southern States SC in Hattiesburg, MS Friday night in their opening game of the 2023 NPSL Gulf Coast season.  The Jesters return to the field looking to build on the 2022 NPSL campaign that saw them eliminated in the Conference semifinals.

Head coach Kenny Farrell is looking forward to getting started,

“The players have put forward a tremendous effort in training and in preparation for this first game.  We have a good group with some experienced players and some newcomers.  If they work hard and focus on Friday we have every chance of getting a result.”

New Orleans and Southern States played three times in the 2022 NPSL season with SSSC winning all three matches. The Jesters faced SSSC twice in the regular season losing 4-0 in Hattiesburg on May 14 and then losing the second match of the series on June 25 in New Orleans in a close game that finished 3-2 in favor of Southern States.

The teams faced off again in the NPSL Gulf Coast semifinal with SSSC advancing after a nine goal thriller that ended 5-4 in favor of Southern States.

Southern States SC opened their campaign last weekend with a 1-1 tie versus Jacksonville Armada.  Jacksonville opened the scoring in the first minute but SSSC fought back and equalized through Sacha Vandersteene in the 73rd minute.

The Jesters first home match is for next Saturday, May 20, vs. Florida Roots FC, gates open at 5:30 PM with kick off set for 7:00 PM.
