Jesters Clinch West Division, Remain Undefeated

The New Orleans Jesters are the conference’s West division champs. It was a night to be remembered on Monday night—and when the final whistle blew, the stadium erupted.

The game against Inter Nashville FC started off with both sides making offensive plays, and both defenses proving formidable until the half—when it was still tied at forty-five minutes. The pace of the game changed drastically when second year Jester Mason Walsh put one through in the 51st minute following a penalty in the box. With the Jester’s up 1-0, both teams turned things up in the face of Nashville’s attempt to equalize: resulting in countless controversial plays, five yellow cards, and a red card thrown against the Jesters.

Coach Kenny Farrell was quite confident even after going down a man: “I told the players that they would have many tests presented throughout the season. They knew that how they handled it was vital – they needed to stay focuses and not get distracted in order to maintain a strong performance. We have had multiple unexpected tests and this was just another one. The players have been superb and handled this as well as they could have. The end result spoke for itself.”

The Jesters, forced to play with a ten-man team for almost forty minutes, held on tough, and the defense—tougher. With a final goal by Jester Lucas Cury in the 85th minute, the division was nearly won. And when the final whistle screamed, as did Pan American scream with applause.

The regular season isn’t over yet. The Jesters have one more game on July 8th against the Birmingham Hammers, and a chance to clinch the Southeast conference title, and to claim hosting rights for the conference tournament. The Jesters are still one of three NPSL teams to go undefeated, and a win on Saturday would hold that record.

The Hammers haven’t had a stellar season, and the last two times the teams have faced each other the Jesters have won both with a combined nine goals. Coach Farrell looks to see more of the same on Saturday, July 8th, and aims to cap off the season undefeated, securing one the best seasons the Jesters have ever had.
