Jesters defeat Tallahassee SC.
New Orleans, LA. The New Orleans Jesters defeated Tallahassee SC 4-3 tonight at Pan American Stadium. In a back and forth game the Jesters had to come from a goal behind to secure their first home win of the season.
Forward Russell Brown led the way with an energetic performance that resulted in a goal and an assist while midfielder Erick Gunera added a personal highlight drilling in a goal from just inside the Tallahassee half.
The Jesters opened the scoring in the 19th minute after earning a corner kick on the far side. Ricardo Gomez whipped the ball into the near post and defender Sky Sinclair angled a header past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
Tallahassee fought back with Robert Wilcox scoring twice in succession to give the visitors an early lead.
In the 34th minute New Orleans equalized in spectacular fashion after Erick Gunera spotted the Tallahassee goalkeeper off his line. The crowd roared as his driven shot from five yards inside the visitors half dropped over the line to make it 2-2.
New Orleans made it 3-2 in the 64th minute with Juan Pablo Gonzalez finishing from close range after a perfectly weighted cross from Russell Brown.
Brown was rewarded for an excellent evening’s work in the 73rd minute smashing home a right-footed shot from just inside the box.
Tallahassee’s Jose Vivas made it 4-3 with 15 minutes to go but it was too little too late as New Orleans closed the game out to secure the win.
The Jesters head to Florida for a pair of games next weekend with a Friday night match versus Jacksonville Armada followed by a Sunday evening game versus Tallahassee SC.
