Jesters Dominate First NPSL League Match

New Orleans, LA – May 12, 2018

The Jesters bounced back from their U.S. Open Cup loss Wednesday night in a big way Saturday night, beating Southeast Conference rival, Emerald Force 4-0.  New Orleans dominated from the opening kickoff, and scored in the 8th minute on a Mason Walsh goal.  After missing a penalty kick early in the half, Tom Peers registered a pair of goals, one from Mason Walsh in the 29th minute and again in the 38th minute off of a beautiful through ball from Ollie Roberts.  Peers said “Mason Walsh was excellent on that first one. I have played with him before in England and he put it across perfect and I put it away. And then on the second one, I had to be composed and put it in the back of the net, and that’s what I did.”

Then Roberts got in on the act in stoppage time of the first half, with a beautiful bending free kick that beat the keeper far post. Roberts on his first goal as New Orleans Jester said, “We have been practicing free kicks in training and I have always stood over it. Me and Mason discussed it if he should take it or I should take it. But I found the keeper’s far side and hit the top corner.”

Emerald Force did little to threaten in the second half and New Orleans cruised to the 4-0 win.  Coach Kenny Farrell on the win “I thought the first half was brilliant. I thought we took a great approach to the game and didn’t let Emerald Force to settle at all. We got four goals in the first half and played it out in the second half and now we get a week to rest until we play Greenville, so quite happy.”

The Jesters return to NPSL action again next Saturday, when they host the expansion Greenville FC at 7pm at Pan American Stadium.
