Jesters fall to Pensacola

The New Orleans Jesters lost 0-1 to Pensacola FC tonight at Pan American Stadium. In a tight back and forth game the match was decided by a single goal scored midway through the first half.

The first chance of the game fell to New Orleans in the 21st minute after the Jesters earned a free kick 25 yards out. Ricardo Gomez clipped the ball in to forward Sheldon Green but Green’s flicked header looped over the bar.

Pensacola opened the scoring through Callum Edwards in the 30th minute after a Jesters defensive miscue. A turnover in the Jesters’ defensive third fell to Edwards and he buried the chance to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Green nearly pulled the Jesters level in the 61st minute after breaking free on a counter attack, but his shot fizzed over the crossbar.

Axell Fuentes had a chance to tie it in the 85th minute after Green slipped the ball through to him just inside the box but his right footed shot flew straight into the arms of the Pensacola goalkeeper.

The Jesters are back home next Saturday night to face Tallahassee SC.
