Jesters fight back to earn a point versus AFC Mobile

Mobile AL.  The New Orleans Jesters came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw versus AFC Mobile on Saturday night at Archbishop Lipscomb Stadium.  Forward Sheldon Green scored in stoppage time at the end of the first half to level the game and earn the Jesters a point.

It was Green’s fourth goal this week following his hat-trick performance on Wednesday night.

With the tie New Orleans (3-3-2) remains in third position in the NPSL Gulf Coast Standings.

New Orleans started on the front foot and were unfortunate not to take the lead in the third minute as midfielder Andres Rodriguez picked out striker Sheldon Green with a deep cross.  Green attempted to volley home but his falling attempt flew high.

Green caused Mobile problems again in the 14th minute after being played through by Jackson Hulme.  As the goalkeeper William Blake approached he flicked a shot at goal but it was deflected wide.

AFC Mobile took the lead in the 20th minute with a wonder-goal from forward Ronaldo Fortune.  The ball was pulled back to Fortune 25 yards out and he hit a superb dipping shot that flew past Jesters goalkeeper Lamoy Graham into the top corner.

The goal prompted a furious response from New Orleans who pressed for an equalizer before half time.  The pressure paid off in stoppage time with a brilliant finish from forward Green. He received the ball inside the box and hit a measured curling strike into the top right corner of the goal.

The best chance of the second half fell to midfielder Jowayne Laidley in the 70th minute but his driven shot from 20 yards out was parried away by Blake.

Next up for the Jesters is a match versus Tallahassee SC next Saturday night at Pan American Stadium; gates open at 6 PM with kick off set for 7 PM ($10 /
