Jesters held by Pensacola FC
Pensacola, Florida. The New Orleans Jesters were held to a 1-1 draw by Pensacola FC tonight in Gulf Breeze, Fl. Despite dominating possession and creating multiple scoring chances the Jesters could only find the back of the net once with captain Ricardo Gomez canceling out Tom Preston’s opener.
The tie lifts New Orleans into second place in the Gulf Coast conference three points behind Southern States SC but having played one game fewer.
Pensacola opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a goal by forward Tom Preston who finished from an acute angle after cutting in from the left flank.
The Jesters equalized five minutes later with a dipping free-kick from Ricardo Gomez. Gomez whipped the ball in from 25 yards out and it bounced in front of the goalkeeper before skipping into the far corner.
New Orleans enjoyed the better of the second half and had several gilt edged chances to take the lead. In the end though the Jesters were grateful for goalkeeper Alex Hare who made a big stop in the 87th minute denying Pensacola on a one on one counter attack to preserve the 1-1 scoreline.
The Jesters are back home at Pan American Stadium on Saturday night for a 7 PM match versus Tallahassee SC ($10, nolajesters.com).
