Jesters take on Columbus United Saturday night in Home Opener
New Orleans, LA. The New Orleans Jesters take on Columbus United Saturday night at Pan American Stadium in the first home game of the NPSL season. Gates open at 6 PM with kick off set for 7 PM.
New Orleans scored a 1-0 road victory vs Pensacola FC last Sunday evening to get off to a winning start in the first game of the season.
Jesters Head Coach Kenny Farrell was pleased with the opening performance,
“We knew the game would be tough against a very good team in Pensacola and I was pleased with the effort and commitment the players showed. Physically it was a challenge but they dug in and in the end I think we deserved the points.
We will need to be ready for another tough early season test on Saturday night but I know the boys who are looking forward to playing in front of our fans. If we work as hard as we did last weekend we have the quality to get a positive result.”
The Jesters will be led by returning captain Ricardo Gomez who is back for a third season with the team. Forward Sheldon Green, midfielders Erick Gunera, Adam Toras and Russell Brown all return to play again this year.
The Jesters added Academy product midfielder Paul Richard to the roster last week and he made his NPSL debut, coming off the bench late in the second half.
New players include former Liga MX goalkeeper Juan Pablo Chavez and forward Tom Preston who played the past two years with Pensacola FC.
The Jesters will play in the NPSL’s new Gulf Coast Sunshine conference with several old rivalries renewed plus new teams in a ten game regular season schedule with a chance to represent New Orleans in the National playoffs.
The New Orleans Jesters first home match is set for Saturday May 18 vs Columbus United FC. The game is at Pan American Stadium, City Park; gates open at 6:00 PM with kick off set for 7:00 PM ($10, www.nolajesters.com).
