New Orleans Jesters fall to Southern States SC

New Orleans, LA. The New Orleans Jesters lost 3–2 to Southern States SC Saturday night at Pan American Stadium. The goals and chances came thick and fast in a frantic and occasionally ill-tempered game. In the end New Orleans will count themselves unlucky not to have taken anything from a match that saw them dominate the latter stages and create several gilt-edged opportunities.

Southern States opened the scoring in the 3rd minute after a counter-attack down the left channel resulted in a low cross to the back post. Forward Sheldon Green met the ball and finished from close range.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 after the ball deflected awkwardly off a Jesters defender straight into the path of SSSC striker David Jorgge who drilled the ball home past goalkeeper Lamoy Graham. 9 2-0 deflected to him then Jorgge

New Orleans pulled a goal back in the 15th minute after earning a free kick 25 yards out. Midfielder Ricardo Gomez chipped a perfectly flighted pass over the Southern States defense to Maxi Gallizzi who headed home his tenth goal of the campaign.

SSSC restored their two goal advantage ten minutes before half time with a deflected finish by Lucas Murillo who angled the ball home at the near post from a set-piece.

The Jesters attacked from the second half whistle and were rewarded two minutes into the half with another goal from a set play. Ricardo Gomez again supplied the cross but this time it was defender Guy Baskerville who headed home to make it 3-2.

New Orleans controlled the game for the remainder of the match and created several good chances to level it. The best chance of the half came in the 72nd minute as Maxi Galizzi was denied from ten yards out by a good save. Substitute midfielder Russel Brown drilled the rebound on frame but his shot was blocked and ricocheted away to safety.

The Jesters head to Florida next week for a pair of games, Wednesday versus Jacksonville Armada FC and Saturday versus Pensacola.

New Orleans returns to Pan American Stadium on Saturday July 9 for the regular season final versus Florida Roots SC.
