New Orleans Jesters held by ten-man Tallahassee SC

Tallahassee, FL.  The New Orleans Jesters tied Tallahassee SC 0-0 Saturday night at Gene Cox Stadium. Tallahassee finished the match with ten men after Cameron Earls was shown a straight red card for using his hand to prevent a Jesters goal in the 87th minute but the ensuing penalty-kick by forward Sheldon Green was saved by goalkeeper Grant Wollam.

On the balance of play New Orleans probably deserved more however the point from the tie combined with the win on Thursday evening lifts the Jesters (2-2-2) up into 4th position in the Gulf Coast standings and sets up a battle for the third spot with Pensacola FC as the two sides meet on Wednesday at Pan American Stadium.

The first chance of the game fell to Tallahassee with a floated cross to the back post from midfielder Mateus Bitencourt.  Forward Justin Laird bundled the ball over the line but the apparent goal was called back with the assistant-referee signalling that Laird used his arm to push the ball into the goal.

The Jesters first chance came in the 23rd minute after midfielder Mason Morise broke a tackle just inside the Tallahassee half.  He took a touch then fired at the goal but his shot skipped just wide of the target.

Two minutes later striker Sheldon Green found himself one on one with Grant Wollam after a superb through-ball that the fullback failed to read. Green picked his spot but Wollam managed to scuff the ball away with an outstretched leg.

In stoppage time at the end of the first half winger Jowayne Laidley picked out Mason Walsh on the opposite flank with a driven pass.  Walsh cut inside the Tallahassee right back but his curling shot missed just wide of the far post.

Jesters goalkeeper Lamoy Graham had little to do throughout the evening but denied Levy Nsimba in the 71st minute with a diving save to prevent Nsimba’s headed attempt from finding the net.

New Orleans continued to create chances with substitute winger Luciano Galizzi coming close in the 74th minute but the best chance was Green’s from the penalty-spot in the 87th minute.

Green struck the ball well but Wollam capped a fine performance by once again making the save.

The Jesters return to Pan American Stadium on Wednesday night to take on Pensacola FC; gates open at 6 PM with kick off set for 7 PM ($10 /
