The NPSL has decided there will not be a 2021 Gulf Coast Championship final, and the New Orleans Jesters will not participate further in the NPSL playoffs.

Two members of the New Orleans Jesters squad tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, July 17 and the team has been following quarantine protocols since the positive tests.

Throughout the process the New Orleans Jesters remained committed to play the game and offered two solutions, the first would have seen the South Region playoffs condensed into an 6-day period starting on July 24 and concluding on July 28. The second would have allowed the Gulf Coast Championship to be played on Saturday, July 24, but in turn removed the Gulf Coast Conference from the NPSL Regional and National Playoffs.

After deliberation the NPSL Executive Committee decided to cancel the Gulf Coast Championship final leaving the 2021 conference undecided. In addition the NPSL decided that Southern States SC will play a South Region semifinal match vs. Naples United FC in Hattiesburg, MS on Friday, July 23rd.  The winner of this match will go on to play Tulsa Athletic in Tulsa, OK on Sunday, July 25th in the NPSL South Region Final.

While the New Orleans Jesters are very disappointed in the NPSL’s decision, we look forward to continuing to represent New Orleans in the NPSL.
